Achieving success with a television series is not an easy task, the work of the writers, producers and actors must be of high quality so that the public gets hooked and makes them part of them.
And since a series has achieved success, it is common for them to want to extend its life as much as possible, which sometimes has a counterproductive effect and undermines the quality that we were used to. It is common for plots and plots to become boring and repetitive or for unexpected twists in the script that change people's minds.
What is a spin off series?
Another of the options that producers and television networks choose to extend the success of a series is to create spin-off series that delve deeper into the plot of one of the secondary characters, the past life of one of the main characters or what happens to the characters years after the original series.
Spinoff series are those that have their origin in another previous series and that develop from characters or subplots. These series have been a hit on television for their ability to expand familiar universes and offer new perspectives and adventures. Since its inception, many spinoff series have become classics and have been acclaimed by critics and audiences alike.
Some examples of the best spinoff series of all time include "Frasier," which developed from the "Cheers" series; "Angel," which developed from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"; and "Better Call Saul," a spinoff of the popular "Breaking Bad" series. All of these series have proven their ability to create interesting stories and memorable characters in their own right, while maintaining a connection to the original series.
Achieving new success with a spinoff series is not an easy task, there are clear examples of great failures such as the "Joey" series that focused on this main character from Friends and his life after the end of the original series.
